Underground Utilities & Directional Boring Services
Comprehensive property operations and construction solutions tailored to your needs.
Unisource Services LLC: Seamless utility installation, minimal disruption
Our company provides expert underground directional boring services, offering a precise and non-invasive solution for installing underground utilities across a wide range of properties. We understand that installing essential utilities like power, water, sewer, and telecommunications is critical, but traditional trenching can be disruptive and damaging to a property's landscape, parking lots, and infrastructure.
Our approach minimizes surface disruption, preserves the integrity of existing landscapes, and reduces project timelines and costs. We provide a safe, efficient, and reliable method for installing utilities underneath roads, sidewalks, waterways, and manicured properties. Whether the project is a sprawling commercial development, a vital government facility, or a residential utility hookup, our team delivers superior results with minimal impact.
Scope of work
1. Project planning and safety
Initial consultation: Meet with the client to understand project goals, utility requirements, and site constraints.
Site assessment and utility locating: Conduct a thorough site assessment, including a detailed inspection and marking of all existing underground utilities, such as gas, electric, and water lines.
Drill path planning: Design a precise, pre-approved drill path to avoid obstacles, minimize disruption, and ensure proper utility depth and alignment.
Compliance and permits: Adhere to all relevant safety standards, including OSHA regulations, and assist with securing necessary permits and approvals.
Traffic control: Implement appropriate traffic and pedestrian control measures to ensure safety during the project.
2. Boring operations
2.1. Pilot hole drilling
Entry and exit pits: Excavate small, controlled pits at the bore's entry and exit points to manage drilling fluids and debris.
Pilot hole creation: Use a surface-launched drilling rig with a steerable drill head to create a small-diameter pilot hole along the pre-approved path.
Steering and tracking: Use advanced tracking technology to monitor the drill head's location, depth, and direction in real-time, ensuring accuracy and avoiding obstacles.
2.2. Reaming and pullback
Borehole enlargement: Pull a reaming tool back through the pilot hole to progressively enlarge it to the required diameter for the utility line.
Drilling fluid management: Use a controlled mixture of bentonite and water to stabilize the borehole, lubricate the drill path, and carry out excavated spoils.
Utility installation: Connect the new utility pipe or conduit to the drill rig and pull it back through the reamed borehole into place.
3. Utility types
Telecommunications: Install conduits for fiber optic cables, coaxial cables, and other communication lines.
Power and electrical: Place conduit for underground electrical lines and street lighting.
Water and sewer: Install or replace water mains, sewer lines, and drainage pipes.
Gas lines: Bore for the installation of gas pipelines.
4. Post-construction services
Site restoration: Restore the work area to its original condition, including backfilling pits, replacing topsoil, and repairing any affected landscaping or hardscape.
Clean-up: Remove all equipment, excess drilling fluid, and debris from the site.
Reporting: Provide the client with final project documentation, including as-built drawings and a bore log, to verify the location and depth of the installed utility.
5. Sector-specific benefits
Commercial and retail: Maintain operational continuity by avoiding disruption to customer access, parking areas, and business hours.
Government facilities: Execute projects efficiently and securely around critical infrastructure, roads, and sensitive public areas with minimal impact.
Sporting complexes: Install utilities underneath playing fields, track, and parking areas without damaging valuable athletic surfaces.
Residential properties: Preserve landscaping, driveways, and sidewalks by installing utilities without invasive trenching.
